Solo First Jump
The scheduled First Jump Classes start at 8:30am on Saturdays and Sundays. Make sure that you arrive a few minutes prior to that.
As you arrive at the drop zone, you will be greeted by our Eden North staff members. We will give you a brief introduction to your schedule for the day and have you fill out the necessary paper work.
Make sure to wear comfortable clothing, appropriate for the weather, such as track pants; and please wear running shoes for footwear. We will provide you with all of the necessary equipment to make your jump, including jumpsuit, goggles, helmet, and parachute equipment.
There is food service available all day at Donna’s Cook Shack with homemade delicious food.
Next is a complete, five-hour first jump training course taking you through the step by step procedures needed to insure a safe fulfilling first jump. Once completing the course you will be given an exam to confirm that you are ready to make your first parachute jump. You will be manifested on a load with your instructor and up to three other students. We will fly you to an altitude of 3500 feet.
During this flight you will most likely experience more than one emotion and have an opportunity to enjoy a topside view of rural Alberta. Your instructor will help you prepare for your next step. The aircraft will be flown over the drop zone at the predetermined altitude and the in-flight door will be opened to allow you to begin arguably, one of your most exciting journey's. The wind is there, the adrenaline is working. You climb out on the wing strut and let yourself hang from the wing. The instructor is there beside you and reminds you to look up. You get the go signal and yell arch as you let go and fly free of the aircraft. In those few seconds you will have accomplished more than most men or women have ever had the opportunity to dare. The feeling can only be comprehended by the one involved in this crazy, exciting sport. The parachute billows open as you get a hold of the control toggles. You turn your parachute towards the target and find it surprisingly calm and relaxing while you fly over the countryside back to your landing area.
You hear the ground controller on the radio welcoming you to the world of skydiving. It is somewhat overwhelming, the fear, the excitement, the control, the serenity and, remarkably, your own ability in accomplishing what so few would dare to experience. The canopy ride is coming to an end; you wish it could last forever but gravity brings you home and back to the moment. You turn yourself into the wind preparing for your landing. The radio supervisor helps guide you in and at just the right altitude you slow your parachute down by pulling both the control toggles. Stand up landing, what a feeling, what a day, and what next.
